Short Version
I’ve made the decision to run my HP Hobbies store completely out of Shopify. Now, instead of a “Products” menu opion, there is a “Store” menu option that will take you directly to my Shopify store.
Please note, purchases made on this site have always been through my Shopify store, I just used their “buy button” option for product listings I created here on the site. The Shopify store is pretty basic right now, but I will have it fleshed out in the next few days.
The main website will be used to discuss my hobbies (primarily what I’m doing with 3D printing); and, ov course, drive sales to the store.
Longer Version
When I first put up this site, I was very unfamilair with Shopify, and relatively familiar with WordPress, so I decided to host my store in WordPress. At the same time, I also decided not to use the most popular e-commerce store. The reason for that was pretty basic, it’s extremely expensive to add all of the features I wanted, and I believed I could do most of what I needed using a combination of WordPress and Shopify’s “buy button” add on.
I was able to take it pretty far, but just not quite where I wanted.
As I used Shopify more and more, I realized that a lot of what I sell needed to be done as “bundles”, and for whatever reason, I just oculdn’t get the buy button to work with my bundles.
At the same time, as I become more familiar with Shopify, I realized that I could use their store hosting (which is part of my package anyone) with a realtively inexpensive theme, that did all of the things I wanted, and had no problems with the bundles.
So, bottom line, as I learned more about Shopify, it just made sense to use the features there instead of reinventing the wheel.
